Vijay won't have action sequences in 'Thalapathy 66'

Vijay's film with Vamshi Paidipally has been tentatively titled 'Thalapathy 66', and the film has hit the floor a few weeks with a formal puja ceremony. The team has also completed a minor schedule in Chennai, and the director is keen on making an entertaining film. Now, the latest report suggests that Vijay will not have an action sequence in 'Thalapathy 66'. Reported to be an emotional drama, Vijay will be seen like his ‘90s avatars. A few filmmakers opt to go with action sequences while working with an actor like Vijay who performs them well.

But Vamshi Paidipally has apparently decided to make the film in his shade, and the film will reportedly not have any action sequences. When all crew for the film is locked, the stunt master for the film is not finalized, and it adds confirmation to the above report.

'Thalapathy 66' second schedule will begin next week in a film city in Hyderabad, and lead stars are expected to be part of the schedule. Rashmika Mandanna plays the leading lady opposite Vijay in the film, and she is excited about sharing screen space with the actor. Sarathkumar and Shaam also play crucial roles in the film. Thaman is scoring the music for the film, and the composer has already started composing the songs for the film. The makers are also erecting a huge set in Chennai for the post-Hyderabad schedule, and a song is planned to be shot on the set.

An official announcement will be made only in the second half of the year," said a tinseltown source. Your charisma and super stardom has taken this film all the way sir."

Though the film did wonders at the box office in terms of collections, it has been receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. Recently, Thalapathy Vijay's father SA Chandrasekar in an interview slammed director Nelson for the lack of screenplay in the film. The film is scoring well at the box office. The film crossed Rs. 100 crores, making it the first film since Master in January 2021 to hit the three-digit mark.

'Beast' box office collection day 11: Vijay starrer expected to cross Rs. 250 crore mark

'Beast' box office collection day 11: Vijay starrer expected to cross Rs. 250 crore mark

Vijay's 'Beast' was released a day ahead of 'KGF: Chapter 2' starrer Yash and the film had a massive opening at the box office. Vijay played the role of a RAW Agent Veera Ragavhan, and the actor has made a unique attempt with his action avatar. Despite negative reviews, the action entertainer holds a good number of screens on its second weekend, and it has got 90% occupancy in many centers. 'Beast' has reportedly grossed over Rs 235 crores WW, while the TN collection is around 110 crores.

'Beast' is expected to surpass Rs 250 crores at the end of its second weekend, while the film has already turned out to be a profitable venture for its makers, distributors, and theaters that released the film. In Chennai, 'Beast' is just inches away from the Rs 10 crore mark as the domination of 'KGF: Chapter 2' has slowed down the film's box office run in the city, and other locations.

'Beast', which is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has Vijay and Pooja Hegde in lead roles with VTV Ganesh, Sathish, Selvaraghavan, Ankur Vital, Aparna Das, Yogi Babu, and Redin Kingsley among others. Anirudh Ravichander has scored an electrifying background score for the film, and it adds power to Vijay's action avatar.

'Beast' box office collection day 9: Vijay sets a massive record in Kerala

'Beast' box office collection day 9: Vijay sets a massive record in Kerala

'Beast' starring Vijay released with a lot of expectations, and the film had a wide release by occupying a record number of screens on a working day. Despite receiving mixed reviews, Vijay's action drama is running well in cinemas. As per the latest update, the film has set a massive record in Kerala. 'Beast' reportedly grossed over Rs 200 crores worldwide a couple of days back, and the film collection stands now close to Rs 210 crores as it gets an average response on working days.

But Vijay has set a new record in Kerala as the film surpassed Rs 10 crores in the state to become the ninth film of the actor to do so. Vijay now has the most number of films that have collected 10 crores in Kerala, and this explains the craze for the actor in the state. Meanwhile, 'Beast' has grossed over Rs 100 crore mark in Tamil Nadu, and the film is adding a good number in its second week. This weekend is going to be the important test for the film, and the film is expected to cross the total collection of Rs 250 crores.

The negative reviews and the massive response to Yash's 'KGF: Chapter 2' have slowed down the 'Beast' box office rampage, otherwise the film could have added an extra 20 crores to its collection. Nelson Dilipkumar's directorial features Vijay and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, while the music is scored by Anirudh Ravichander.

Beast clocks Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu; Fifth Vijay film to do so

Beast clocks Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu; Fifth Vijay film to do so

Beast eased off another 20 percent on Tuesday, grossing Rs. 4 crores approx at the Indian box office. The film concluded its first 7-days haul in India at just over Rs. 145 crores. The Vijay starrer crossed Rs. 100 crores in Tamil Nadu yesterday, making it the first movie since Master to hit the three digit figure. There are now nine Rs. 100 crore grossers in Tamil Nadu, five of them belonging to Vijay. In doing so, the movie also became the biggest grosser of the year in the state, overtaking Valimai.

The box office collections of Beast at the Indian box office are as follows:

Wednesday - Rs. 58.50 crores

Thursday - Rs. 24.25 crores

Friday - Rs. 18.50 crores

Saturday - Rs. 16.75 crores

Sunday - Rs. 18 crores

Monday - Rs. 5.25 crores

Tuesday - Rs. 4 crores

Total - Rs. 145.25 crores

The film grossed Rs. 2.50-2.75 crores approx in Tamil Nadu yesterday, which is just like Monday similar to Valimai. What that also means is that it will be going below Rs. 2 crore daily number in the state on Thursday if the trend similarity continues. That will probably put the film's chances of reaching Rs. 125 crores in doubt unless jump during second weekend are really good.

The territorial breakdown for two days box office collections of Beast at the Indian box office is as follows:

Tamil Nadu - Rs. 101 crores

AP/TS - Rs. 16.25 crores

Karnataka - Rs. 12.50 crores

Kerala - Rs. 10.50 crores

North India - Rs. 5 crores

Total - Rs. 145.25 crores

Beast: Thalapathy Vijay’s Hostage Drama Hits Rs 200 Crore Mark Worldwide – Reports

Beast: Thalapathy Vijay’s Hostage Drama Hits Rs 200 Crore Mark Worldwide – Reports

The box office performance of Tamil superstar Vijay’s latest movie Beast has become a contentious debate on social media. While a section of people claim that the movie has become a disaster at the ticket windows, largely owing to negative reviews and strong competition from Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2, another section is passionately defending the commercial success of the movie.

The theatre owners on Twitter have been tweeting a show-by-show update of Beast’s box office numbers to spread the news about the movie running to packed houses, despite bad reviews. “#BeastInRamCinemas HOUSEFULL RAMPAGE Family Audiences Likes Him Box Office Can’t Avoid (sic),” read a tweet from Ram Muthuram Cinemas, located in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli.

Beast managed to rake in more than Rs 100 crore from its ticket sales across India within three days of its release. The film, by the end of its first week, has breached Rs 200 crore mark worldwide. According to a Deadline report, the film’s first weekend worldwide collection is pegged at $26 million.

Beast’s theatrical run in other neighbouring states, including Kerala and Karnataka was impacted by the huge demand for KGF 2. It’s safe to say that Beast has emerged as a hit by the end of the extended long weekend by braving poor ratings from the critics and KGF 2 wave at the box office.

It remains to be seen how Beast will hold its ground in the coming days against KGF 2, which is also seeing an increased demand in Tamil Nadu.

Written and directed by Nelson, the film has Vijay playing an Indian spy, who unintentionally wanders into a high-stake hostage situation. The film stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead.

'Beast' deleted scene reveals a new interesting detail about Veera Raghavan - Click to know

'Beast' deleted scene reveals a new interesting detail about Veera Raghavan - Click to know

Thalapathy Vijay's latest outing 'Beast' is running successfully in cinemas now. Though the film is receiving mixed reviews from the fans and critiques, it is still proving to be a blockbuster hit at the box office. Now an interesting update about the deleted scenes of this film has surfaced on the internet.

Vijay played RAW agent Veera Raghavan in the 'Beast', and he goes missing in the film's pre-climax. The makers had a scene of Veera Raghavan getting arrested by police after handing over the terrorist.

Also, a scene of the minister getting arrested for his contact with terrorists. But these scenes were removed from the film due to censorship issues, and we can expect anyone or the two to be released as 'Beast' deleted scenes. It is now clear that the makers wanted to deliver a crisp version of the film to the audience and had chopped off certain scenes to keep the fans engaged.

Beast is written and directed by Nelson and produced by Sun Pictures. The film stars Vijay and Pooja Hegde, while Selvaraghavan, Shine Tom Chacko, Yogi Babu and Redin Kingsley play supporting roles. It revolves around an ex-RAW agent's crusade to rescue people held hostage in a shopping mall by terrorists.

Box Office: Vijay starrer Beast has another Strong day on Friday

Box Office: Vijay starrer Beast has another Strong day on Friday

Vijay starrer Beast had another strong day at the box office with nearly Rs. 20 crores coming on Friday. The film grossed Rs. 19.50 crores approx on its day three, easing off 20 per cent from Thursday, taking its total to Rs. 104 crores approx in India. There could have been another drop today but seeing the matinee collections film seems to have stabilised a bit and a five-day extended weekend will be somewhere around Rs. 135-140 crores.

The box office collections of Beast at the Indian box office are as follows:

Wednesday - Rs. 60 crores
Thursday - Rs. 25 crores
Friday - Rs. 19.50 crores

Total - Rs. 104.50 crores

The film collected Rs. 14-14.50 crores approx on Friday in Tamil Nadu, taking its total in the state to Rs. 68.50-69 crores approx. The three-day numbers are the biggest ever beating Sarkar (Rs. 66.58 crores). The numbers are strong but the trend is not encouraging especially with how KGF 2 seems to be covering ground in the state. On Friday Beast was still double KGF 2 in TN but that could change on Monday if not on Sunday itself. The word of mouth is on the mixed side and weekdays could see big drops as seen with other films like Valimai, Annaatthe, etc recently but unlike those two Beast has already done big numbers and will comfortably pass Rs. 100 crores in Tamil Nadu.

Outside Tamil Nadu, the film is feeling the heat of competition with KGF 2 but the numbers are still quite decent, especially the total number thanks to the huge opening day. Initially, Beast was supposed to release on the same day of KGF 2, which could have been catastrophic for box office in these regions as a clash would have meant missing a big day one.

The territorial breakdown for two days box office collections of Beast at the Indian box office is as follows:

Tamil Nadu - Rs. 68.75 crores
AP/TS - Rs. 13 crores
Karnataka - Rs. 11 crores
Kerala - Rs. 8.25 crores
North India - Rs. 3.50 crores

Total - Rs. 104.25 crores

'Beast' is a commercial hit, says TN Theater Association head Tiruppur Subramaniam

'Beast' is a commercial hit, says TN Theater Association head Tiruppur Subramaniam

The highly anticipated film of Vijay, 'Beast' had hit the big screens two days back, and the film opened with mixed reviews. But the box office numbers are magical even with negative reviews, and it stirred up a puzzle among few. Now, TN Theater Association head Tiruppur Subramaniam calls 'Beast' a commercial hit. In a recent interaction with a Youtube channel, Tiruppur Subramaniam was happy about the response for 'Beast' as it's the first Vijay in two years that has been released with 100% occupancy while 'Master' was released with 50% occupancy last year. 'Beast' early morning shows have been an easy one for office goers, and the film has got a massive opening.

'Beast' has surpassed Rs 100 crores in a quick time to become the all-time fastest Tamil film to achieve the mark, and the film has topped the box office in several locations including Tamil Nadu. Vijay played the role of a RAW agent in 'Beast', which is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, while Anirudh Ravichander's musical has worked very well for the film as his background music elevates the film to a higher level.

On the other hand, the one more big release of the week, 'KGF: Chapter 2' starring Yash is transforming big, and the positive reviews for the film made it gain extra shows in Tamil Nadu.

Box Office: Beast scores heavily Internationally with 25 crores plus Opening day

Box Office: Beast scores heavily Internationally with 25 crores plus Opening day

Beast started its international rollout on Wednesday with a huge $3.30 million approx (Rs. 25 crores) opening day. The number could have been easily over $4 million but the film missed big business in the Middle East due to working day release in Ramdaan month along with no release in Qatar and Kuwait. The collection shall see a bump in the weekend and an extended weekend of $9 million or so can be expected from it.

The top play was North America with $850K opening day. The movie took the career-best start for Vijay in the states, with Tuesday previews even exceeding 2.0. Generally, the USA is not a strong performer for Vijay, so such strong numbers coming from a weaker territory is simply phenomenal.

Malaysia which is a huge Tamil box office hub internationally hasn’t delivered recently but it was back to recording big numbers with this movie as it grossed over RM 2 million ($500K) on Wednesday. Even better, these numbers have come during Ramdaan month and on a working day. Singapore also had a big opening day of S$320K, taking the biggest non-holiday start in the market. Sri Lanka had a record opening day, but due to the recent economic crisis in the country, exchange rates have fallen badly so the dollar value isn’t much. The usual strong zones for Vijay, UK & Europe had a big start with nearly $700K coming from the continent.

The territorial breakdown for overseas opening day collection of Beast is as follows:

USA/CAN - $0.85 million
Middle East - $0.60 million
Malaysia - $0.50 million
Singapore - $0.24 million
Australia/New Zealand - $0.24 million
UK - $0.225 million
Europe - $0.45 million
Sri Lanka - $0.140 million
Box Office: Beast takes the Biggest Opening day ever for Vijay; All-time Record opening in Tamil Nadu

Box Office: Beast takes the Biggest Opening day ever for Vijay; All-time Record opening in Tamil Nadu

Vijay starrer Beast blasted off with an estimated Rs. 61 crores approx at the Indian box office on Wednesday. As was expected, the film took the biggest opening day ever in Tamil Nadu state and the career-best start for Vijay everywhere but Andhra Pradesh. The opening day numbers are second-biggest ever for a Kollywood & eighth-highest ever for any film, bettering Vijay’s previous best Sarkar (Rs. 50.10 crores).

In Tamil Nadu, the initial estimates have the film at Rs. 37-38 crores, beating Sarkar (Rs. 32.84 crores) for the opening day record comfortably with a margin of Rs. 5 crores or so. The new opening record has come on a non-holiday but in the way the stardom works down South, it doesn’t really matter when the movie has the craze behind it. The last two Vijay releases had some sort of external factors like clash or CoVID restriction keeping them in mid-20s but come a normal release, the numbers have gone over Rs. 30 crores, in fact Rs. 35 crores to be precise.

The actual numbers for Tamil Nadu will be posted later in the day.

Outside Tamil Nadu, the film opened strongly everywhere else as well. In Kerala, it scored the second-biggest opening day ever, just behind Odiyan. Karnataka had a huge opening day of Rs. 7.50 crores approx. When the actuals come it could be the biggest start for Kollywood in the state as it is just lakhs behind 2.0 (Rs. 7.60 crores). In Telugu states, Nizam recorded the best start for a Vijay starrer while Andhra side it was lower than Sankranti release Master.

The territorial breakdown for opening day box office collections of Beast is as follows:

Tamil Nadu - Rs. 37 crores approx
Karnataka - Rs. 7.50 crores
AP/TS - Rs. 8 crores
Kerala - Rs. 6.50 crores
North India - Rs. 2 crores

Total - Rs. 61 crores approx

Due to release of KGF Chapter 2 today, the screenings of the film outside Tamil Nadu will be impacted heavily, though the film is still dominating the box office in the home state. On top of that initial reports for the movie are average, so there will be a considerable drop outside Tamil Nadu, but on the strength of this opening day and way the movie is holding in Tamil Nadu, it can reach around Rs. 140-150 crores for the five-day extended weekend.
Beast Movie Review: Vijay Fails To ‘Master’ This One, But It’s Still A Celebration For Thalapathy Fans!

Beast Movie Review: Vijay Fails To ‘Master’ This One, But It’s Still A Celebration For Thalapathy Fans!

⭐⭐⭐½

What’s Good: Vijay delivering the regular dose of entertainment to his fans, if movies were just about style this one would’ve won it all!

What’s Bad: Story never gets to be the ‘beast’ & it boils down to just being like a forgotten supporting character

Loo Break: If you’re in just for Vijay, you won’t need any break but if you’re here for something else, try to book a ticket near the audi’s entrance

Watch or Not?: I would’ve said just Vijay fans, but they’ll anyway watch it. So, for the remaining ones, read & decide! (Ninja technique of increasing session time)

Available On: Theatrical Release

Runtime: 155 Minutes

User Rating:

Flying through hundreds of bullets, we’re introduced to the ‘beast’ of the film, Veeraraghavan (Vijay), a R&AW who goes against the government to successfully execute a deadly mission but ends up emotionally scarring himself. Veera goes on to live a simple life leaving his job and tumbles into Preethi (Pooja Hegde) who is engaged, but of course, falls for Veera because he’s the lead.

On not so one fine day, a mall gets hijacked and Veera happens to be there with Preethi and a few of his people. You know if it’s a hijack, it’ll be terrorists, if there are terrorists, they’ll demand to release their leader who’s jailed for killing people, if there’s such leader he’ll befriend someone from a political party and all of this happens here. Towards the end, there are some air-wars as well, but by then it became too difficult for me to keep a track of what was actually going on.

Beast Movie Review: Script Analysis

Nelson tries to take the ‘Doctor’ route once again retaining the humour-thriller formula, but the mixed genres instead of complementing each other, they annihilate each other’s space. The thrilling story does intrigue you using its smart traps but it just loses momentum on switching between a pacy actioner, a lame love story and a moderate comedy. The extremely convenient love angle doesn’t help the script to create an emotional connect with the leading pair.

The story very clearly (and rightly so) keeps Vijay as the centre of attraction, but the problem starts when he’s the ‘only’ centre of attraction because there’s not much happening around him. Manoj Paramahamsa’s camera covers a 360° view around Vijay, as he leaves no corner vacant from which you can probably shoot Thalapathy. A scene involves the camera angle to do a cartwheel & Manoj achieves that with ultra-smoothness.

R. Nirmal’s edit is effortlessly delicious in the action sequences, but there’s a lot of clutter left behind for the final cut by Nelson. Certain comical sequences will be enjoyed by Tamil audiences, as certain jokes won’t work the same way for someone like me watching the film with subtitles.

Beast Movie Review: Star Performance

As one would expect from the director, he has designed scenes for Vijay to exhibit his machoism and that’s totally fine because he owns them all. From breaking the fourth wall by sucking a glass piece from his hand, staring into the camera while wiping blood from his face and many more such scenes allow Vijay to just speak to his crazy fans and these are the film’s best shots. We all know these kinda roles have become a cake-walk for him, and the problem is we’ve seen cake-walk too many times now.

First Radhe Shyam and now this, Pooja Hegde should start choosing scripts that justify the talent she possesses. We’ve seen she could be more than her looks but the makers, too, will have to understand this. Here too, she gets a flowerpot character who doesn’t add any substance to the script.

Selvaraghavan’s Althaf could’ve had a brilliant impact on the narrative if Nelson would’ve focused on the right things. His role had so much more unexplored meat but unfortunately remains underutilised till the end. If there’s someone who really nailed the funny portions, it has to be VTV Ganesh. He garners the maximum laughs and such a level of comedy throughout wouldn’t have hurt this much. Yogi Babu in his limited screen space enjoys a half-baked role that ranges from being extremely entertaining to ‘what the f*ck was that?’.

Beast Movie Review: Direction, Music

Nelson falls for the very similar filmmaking trap of compromising style with substance. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there’s nothing significant here, but there are a lot of insignificant speed-breakers which become the issue. If someone can edit out the lousy love angle, some forced fun sequences keeping the action at the core, this would’ve been an amazing attempt majorly because of its cinematic style.

Anirudh rarely disappoints with the peppy background scores and the same is the case with Beast. Songs definitely are at your face forced but the BGM is the real deal here.

Beast Movie Review: The Last Word

All said and done, this is pure entertainment fodder for Vijay fans and one should rightfully expect the same from it. But if you’re looking for a solid storyline like Master had, I’m afraid you’d have to re-watch that.

Jersey starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur has pushed its release date. While Beast is also facing the effect and struggling to garner notable screens, the first review is out and favourable. Scroll below for what is being said for Thalapathy Vijay starrer.

There has been a lot of trouble revolving around the Nelson Dilipkumar directorial. It was just recently revealed that the film has been banned in Kuwait. It is now being said that a similar situation is being witnessed in Qatar over its alleged Islamophobic content.

Beast stars Pooja Hegde as the leading lady alongside Thalapathy Vijay. Selvaraghavan, Yogi Babu and Redin Kingsley will also be seen in supporting roles. The film is scheduled for its big release on April 13 and fans have been eager to read early reviews.

Thalapathy Vijay's 'Beast' is all set to storm the screens worldwide in just two days time on Wednesday the 13th April. The advance booking in all theaters filled up within seconds and there is anticipation of unpredented festivities by Thalapathy fans after the testing pandemic times.

Sun Pictures has been releasing all the updates of 'Beast' at regular intervals and the latest is a new thirty second promo that shows the romantic equation between Vijay and Pooja Hegde for the first time. The clip begins with the duo dancing for the 'Arabic Kuthu' and then Pooja asking Vijay to hold her hand if he is afraid to speak to her.
